In 1964, Ashley Machine and Tool was established in West Wyoming. During this time, the company became a prime subcontractor for Grumman Aerospace, supplying parts for the A-6, EA- 6B, EF-111, E 2-C, and in 1966 Ashley Machine and Tool machined two types of hatches used for the Apollo Lunar Module Program. We also have produced catapult launching cylinder covers for the U.S. Navy carrier fleet since 1968. During the 1970’s, Ashley Machine & Tool added three new companies to their customer base. Boeing Military Airplane Company, producing horizontal and vertical stabilizer chords for the 737-200, Sikorsky Aircraft, producing parts for the Black Hawk and CH- 53E Helicopter and Kaman Aerospace, producing parts for the F-14. On October 24, 1975, Ashley Machine & Tool was honored to receive a letter of commendation from the Navy Department for the manufacture of cross-deck pendants for aircraft carrier operation. During the 1980’s, Ashley Machine concentrated more on commercial aircraft programs, including the 737, 767, while maintaining growth with Kaman Aerospace producing parts for the B-1 Bomber and the SH- 2 Navy helicopter. In 1992, Ashley Machine started manufacturing large wing capstrips for the new C- 17 cargo plane for Kaman Aerospace. By the mid 1990’s, the commercial industry started to boom resulting in our company manufacturing all long structured parts on the tail section for Boeing 737 classic and 737 Next Generation airplanes, as well as, the manufacturing of stringers for the “Citation 10” jet aircraft for Cessna of Wichita, Kansas. The introduction of the Boeing 777 aircraft resulted in Ashley Machine manufacturing both Kreuger Flap and Bullnose assemblies. Ashley Machine continued manufacturing center section capstrips for Northrop Grumman’s E- 2C aircraft. This greatly developed the company’s forming capabilities. In 1997 Ashley Machine and Tool was awarded the Mid-Atlantic Small Business of the Year Award from Northrop Grumman. In early 2000, Vought Aircraft Industries bought the commercial aircraft industry from Northrop Grumman. We continue to manufacture the center section catstrips for Vought Aircraft Industries. Y2K established international status for out company manufacturing 737 Tail Section Chords for the Shanghai Aircraft Company in Shanghai, China. Ashley Machine and Tool Company will continue with their record of performance well into the next millennium. |
